We’re back from NSS, exhausted and overwhelmed – but omigoodness, what a FANTASTIC experience! We can’t wait to share everything with you, but while we’re decompressing and getting re-organized here’s a little something very timely for this time of year. It’s definitely time to get our tan on!
Self Tanner: Top 10 Self Tanners on the Market (according to About.com Style & Beauty Guide Julyne Derrick) based on tester and expert reviews.
Guerlain’s Terracotta Self-Tanning Spray for the Body
At $35 – $50 it’s one of the best spray tanners on the market. Testers overall found it dried very quickly, overall color was very natural (a brown rather than orange and the tan deepened as the hours went on), and the smell factor was average like most self-tanners. One con is the price – it is not a cheap option.
L’Oreal Sublime Glow for the Body
This is a great, inexpensive gradual tanner. Testers found it best to apply product over the course of a couple days so the tan could gradually grow darker. Apply after you exfoliate in the shower and apply a thin layer of moisturizer. Overall, testers loved the shimmer it leaves behind and the price. One con is the product tends to be runny and many testers would have preferred a pump. Still, this is a quality self-tanner for the money. $10
Laura Mercier Bronzing Gel for the Face
Unlike other self-tanners, Laura Mercier’s bronzing gel is meant to be used to enhance the tan on the face. The company suggests dabbing a bit on AFTER tinted moisturizer and BEFORE powders. A bit pricier other bronzers on the market, testers found it’s well worth the price. This bronzer provides a “just tanned” look with a touch of rose. Warms the skin and adds a spark of shimmer. $32.
Jergens Natural Glow
This is the favorite of many who have tried dozens of other options. People love that it’s gradual because one-application self-tanners tend to streak on the pale and fair-skinned. Use this daily after the shower and enjoy a gradual, natural tanned look. Jergens is only $4.
Decleor Self Tanning Milk and Gels for Body and Face
You’ll find Decleor products to be one of the best and least pungent self tanners you’ll try. Testers found the product to be almost perfect: Hydrating, non-streaking, natural, no orange color and with a bit of shimmer. Like all self-tanners, Decleor products do smell. The tanning agents are 100 percent organic and are suitable for face as well as body. And they even have a bit of SPF! $36
St. Tropez Whipped Bronze Self-Tanning Mousse for Face & Body
This salon brand is a celeb fave. You apply this and within a few hours you’ll have a deep, naturally-looking tan. This is not a gradual self-tanner. Because the product is fast-acting and dries fast, testers recommend using the pad that St. Tropez makes for their self-tanners. St. Tropez’s website even features applications videos. Whipped Bronze has a more pleasant fragrance than other self-tanners. Ideal for the entire body, including the face. $40
Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanner for Face
The highest rated and most loved Clarins self-tanner on Makeupalley.com. Reviewers raved about ease of use, didn’t complain about the smell and said the product worked great on oily skin. $32
Neutrogena Sun Fresh Sunless Foam
For an inexpensive self-tanner for the body, this product doesn’t streak, dries quickly and allows for a buildable tan. If you have darker skin, you should opt for the medium/deep product because you may not notice a tan if you opt for the fair/medium. $9
GlowFusion Natural Protein Tan Spray for Body & Face
This is Julyne’s self-tanner of choice at the moment. She discovered it at Sephora a couple years ago and while it does smell and it dries quickly, the tan looks incredibly natural. $40 and up
Hawaiian Tropic Firming Island Glow Daily Moisturizer
A gradual tanner for the body and you can’t beat the price. Makeupalley.com users love this product and it compares favorably to Jergens self-tanner, which some people complain smells. $7 on up
So, there ya have it! The best self-tanners on the market – now go get your tan on! Chat back with us and let us know your favorite! Which one worked best for you, which would you recommend to your BFF? We wanna know!

NYC – here we come!
We, here at Modern Posh Design, take great pride in our work. So when someone very well-respected within the industry gives us a pat on the back, we tend to beam with pride. We had the privilege of designing a holiday card for none other than Sarah Schwartz, editor of Stationery Trends Magazine. She was kind enough to write this testimonial.
This has been the second year that Julie did our holiday cards, and I can hardly put into words how thrilled we’ve been with the results both times. Last year’s output — based around a photo of my daughter sitting in front of our rhododendron trees — was incredible, and I honestly thought it would be impossible to top. How happy I was to be proven wrong — this year’s is even more amazing! All I did was tell Julie that I’m currently obsessed with chevron stripes and sent her a few photos — and she created this amazing tri-fold that knocks the socks off of everyone who sees it! She really transcends the whole holiday missive to create something truly unforgettable that is so much more. We get so many compliments on it — perhaps the best one received so far was from friends of ours that said they preferred ours to the one they got from the president! I am *almost* embarrassed to get these types of responses from friends & family!
Can you see us beaming from where you are? It was such an honor to work with Sarah and we are thrilled to have had the opportunity. Here is the holiday card we designed for her and her sweet family.
As if that weren’t enough to get us all giddy, Sarah also featured a piece of our work in a recent List Topping Trends article she penned for the Paper Clips Newsletter section of the National Stationery Show website. Here is an excerpt. Be sure to check out the whole article here.
Rainbows. Quiet since the 1980s, rainbows have been reborn in a big way, and may be just the sunny tonic a recession- or depression-addled nation is seeking. Updated for today’s aesthetics, they have been rethought and reinterpreted, appearing on everything from cake layers to … you guessed it, chevron stripes.
We are so excited for the upcoming National Stationery Show, May 20-23, in New York City. We look forward to it each and every year! We’d be ever-so-pleased if you stopped by and visited us at Booth #2815. We’d love to see you!
In much of the country the weather is heating up, temperatures are rising, and people are itching to get outdoors. I can’t help but think of what it’ll be like to lounge in (or by) the pool during the hot summer months. Wouldn’t it be incredible if you could enjoy some of these gorgeous outdoor spaces?
Many people consider their backyards an extension of their indoor living space. Wouldn’t you if your backyard looked like this?
Look at these amazing outdoor kitchens! I would venture to guess these might be nicer than some INDOOR kitchens! WOW!
Even during the summer, the nights can get chilly – cozy up to the firepit and make some S’Mores…they bring out the kid in all of us!
Whatever you’re doing outdoors this season, be sure to do it with style, flair, and passion.
A Tango, perhaps? The Tangerine Tango, specifically. Not only is it a dance…it’s a color. A very bright and bold color that holds the honor of being named Pantone’s 2012 Color of the Year (Pantone 17-1463). Chosen because of its “sophisticated and dramatic undertones,” Tangerine Tango is a continuation of last year’s winner, Honeysuckle (Pantone 18-2120). The 2011 winner was said to be “inspiration to face life’s everyday troubles with verve and vigor,” with Tangerine Tango building off of that by giving an “energy charge” to move forward. Pretty dramatic language, but these people takes their colors seriously.
And so do we…but in a more fun, lighthearted way!
Celebrities are always on the cusp of the latest trends – Tangerine Tango for everybody!
You’ll find it everywhere in the latest home decor trends, naturally.
Fashion and make-up? Of course!
Lifestyle pieces and gift items…you betcha!
Is the Tangerine Tango a bit too bold, bright, or ELECTRIC for you? Never fear, it can be toned down with just the right touches. You just have to know where to start…
A splash of color can make a big impact! For instance, in this dining room, the strips of orange next to the khaki and white really make the orange pop.
This little girl’s room has white walls and furniture causing the orange and pink to have a high impact on this room. It looks fun and playful.
On the flip, orange and blue are also a great combination. This little boy’s room is almost completely opposite of little girl’s room above, yet is just as awesome. With dark walls, furniture and floors, the orange brightens up the décor.
This sitting area is playing with the idea of color. The blue-grey cabinet, with the orange interior is quite lovely and ties together nicely with the orange chair. I also like the idea of living color, so the light orange flowers are a nice touch
I absolutely love this bathroom. The dark brown with the orange makes a bold statement and is softened by the mosaic tile.
So GO FOR IT! Get your Tangerine Tango on! How will you use it? Where will you showcase this POP of brightness in your home? Share with us!
A good of mine shared with me today that her favorite flower is tulips. They really are beautiful and so perfect for spring.
This time of year you can find towns across the country (and probably the world) celebrating the classic spring flower. In Holland (yes, that’s the real name of the town), Michigan their annual celebration of Dutch heritage and culture is a multi-generational event that has something for everyone. Three amazing parades, traditional Dutch Dance performances, concerts, theatre, Dutch attractions, Dutch food, children’s events, Tulip City Tours and so much more!
In Skagit, Washington the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Fesitval (held each year from April 1-30) is one of the destination events for the Pacific Northwest. Every spring hundreds of thousands of people come to enjoy the celebration of spring as millions of tulips burst into bloom. As with all things governed by Mother Nature, the tulips bloom according to their own schedule sometime during the festival. The tulips allow the town to share their corner of the world and helps to showcase Skagit Valley agriculture.
Teleflora tells us that tulips are originally from Persia and Turkey. Different tulip colors carry distinct meanings - yellow symbolize cheerful thoughts, white is for forgiveness, and purple represents royalty. Red tulips are the most special…meaning “perfect love.” The 11th wedding anniversary flower, it is said that the tulip’s velvety black center represents a lover’s heart, darkened by the heat of passion. Rivals the red rose as most romantic flower, doesn’t it? A tulip bouquet, of any color, represents elegance and grace. Just like YOU – our Modern Posh readers and clients.
Are you a gardener? Perhaps you would like to consider adding some bright colorful tulips to your garden this season. If so, you’ll need some tips. Never fear, Gardener’s Paradise is here! Tulips are classified with perennials but often need to be treated as annuals. Dig up your tulips once the foliage has died and store them in a cool dry area for replanting in the fall. Tulips need well drained soil. To improve drainage add sand and compost to your soil. Tulips enjoy full sun.
- Sandy soil is best to increase and flower in later years.
- Good drainage is essential.
- As a rule of thumb, the depth tulips should be planted is approximately 3x the length of the bulb.
- Tulips make excellent cut flowers and usually last about a week in a vase.
- Don’t forget to add a little sugar in the water to prolong the life of your bouquet.
With all the talk of spring, new season, warmer weather, bright colors, and outdoor play how fun is it to add some tulips to your spring decor, wardrobe, table decorations for a party, or landscape? Very modern. Very posh.
Let’s face it – we all lead stressful, busy, and hectic lives. Work, kids, spouse, laundry, errands, cleaning, the list goes on and on…and on. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a spa of our very own right at home? What a heavenly retreat! Well, I’ve found 9easy ways to create a spa at home – without construction, remodeling, or high-costs. Bliss.
Make it rain - Turn your existing shower into a luxurious spa with a relaxing rain shower-head. Convert your standard fixed shower head into a spa shower — normally in less than 60 minutes and without the need to open the wall cavity. You can customize your shower experience by choosing from a selection of rain-head and hand-shower fixtures.

Turn up the heat - The next time you step out of the bath or shower, wrap yourself in a heated towel. There are several wall-mounted options, which offer easy installation for any bath and is one spalike amenity that the whole family will enjoy. The warming bars quickly, safely and evenly distribute heat to towels, robes or blankets. Wrap yourself in warmth!

Bring nature inside - Nothing is more evocative of the spa aesthetic than natural materials such as teak, bamboo and stone. If you love the look of river-rock flooring but not the cost, there is an inexpensive solution. Bring a stone mat into your home spa. Each stone mat is unique and wonderfully tactile underfoot. Mats are typically available in several natural stone colors: black, ochre, white and multi-colored.

Go Turkish? - A simple upgrade of your bath towels can impart the plush luxuries of a spa experience every time you step out of the tub or shower. Made of 100% cotton, Turkish towels are fluffy, supersoft and fast-drying — the perfect home spa amenity. Many assorted colors are available – you’re sure to find one (or several) matching your personal spa decor.

Create a mood – It’s no secret that the spa experience is all about creating a mood: one that soothes the senses and promotes well-being. One of the easiest ways to create that ambiance is with the soft, flickering glow of candlelight. Cluster candles on the vanity or window ledge or around the tub for a long, stress-relieving soak. Choose varieties that are infused with a relaxing scent, such as lavender, sandalwood and ylang ylang — all known to help in countering stress, anxiety and fatigue, and in fostering calm.

Enlist a caddy – There’s not just for golf! Few things are as relaxing — or spa-indulgent — as a nice, long soak in the tub. Bringing in a nice, wood tub caddy makes the soak that much more enjoyable. One provides a convenient place to set a book, a cup of tea or a glass of wine. And really, who doesn’t enjoy a nice glass of wine while relaxing after a long, hard day?

Listen to your playlist - The spa is all about pleasing the senses, and music plays an important part in that equation. Bringing in your custom playlist will only enhance your relaxation and add to the mood you’ve created.

Invigorate your soak - For just pennies a day, you can enjoy the rituals of a spa simply by adding natural, organic salts to your bath. Aromatic blends are designed to refresh, soothe and relax. There are specialty crystals to ease tired muscles and joints, or to stimulate circulation, enhance energy and eliminate toxins you can opt for a naturally invigorating woodsy scent.

Enjoy a massage – Nothing says “spa” quite like a massage. Create your own whirlpool spa at home with a thermal spa bath mat massager. These indulgent devices convert your standard tub into a relaxing, full-body whirlpool bath. Look for one with a floating remote, which puts the controls at your fingertips so all you have to do is lie back, relax and enjoy.

Don’t you want to start creating your home spa retreat right now? Relax. Enjoy. Indulge.
It’s no secret that everybody wants to be trendy, stylish, and on-par with the latest fashions. What is ALL over the runways this season??? Color-blocking, of course! Now I realize it may be a little intimidating to tackle trendy fashion – you may think, “That looks amazing on her but I could never pull it off.” You know those thoughts have crossed your mind…I know they’ve crossed my mind. But when I come across a trend that I really want to give a shot, I search for ways to make it work for me. And naturally, I want to share my findings with you!
I came across a post from The Budget Fashionista that fits the bill, to a tee (no pun intended)…here’s what she had to say.
The hottest trend of the spring/summer season is color-blocking, and personally, we couldn’t be more thrilled. The spring 2012 runways exploded with vibrant hues that were avant garde, playful, and impossible to ignore both for their brightness and their prominence across designers and retailers.
The color-block look is far from new, but it’s back with such a bang that you don’t want to ignore it this year. There are lots of ways to make it work for you–some easier than others–so let’s take some time to examine the best ways to color-block your summer looks.
Cheat. You’ll look like a fashion genius without putting any thought into it if you simply buy a color-blocked dress. Pick one that works for your skin tone and personal style- and make sure all the colors flatter, not just one or two.
Pair separates. When it comes to color-blocking with separates, the easiest way is to pair a bright hue with a nude hue. Once you’ve gotten the hang of it, you can try to pair two bold colors, but we suggest starting with one bright piece and one neutral toned piece.
Up the Ante. Once you’ve got your main hues represented in your outfit, take color-blocking to the next level with accessories. If you’ve got a deep-hued top, skirt or dress, pair it with bright accessories and vice-versa. A bright yellow top looks great with cobalt blue bracelets, and a deep purple skirt pairs nicely with brightly colored shoes.
Opposites attract. There are a few things to remember when it comes to color-blocking with the right colors. Make sure you only have one neon color. While it’s totally okay to rock three bold colors, only one of them should be super bright. We like this formula: one bright, one bold, one neutral.
Also, remember that neutral doesn’t have to mean nude. Use white, grey, brown and black to hold your outfit together. And an easy way to make sure you get the trend right, even without a neutral? Stick with different hues of the same color. Sky blue, cobalt and navy look great, while pale pink, bright pink and fuchsia do as well.
Having a tough time figuring out what to pair with what?
Here are some more hues that go great together:
1. Cobalt Blue, Yellow, Orange
2. Chocolate Brown, Pink, Peach
3. Purple, Bright Blue, Teal
4. Deep Blue, Bright Pink, White
5. Coral, Grey, Ivory
Isn’t that all wonderful advice? And don’t you want to go shopping…like, right now!? I know I do…see you at the mall!
Check out this sweet party decor and all the special little touches that went into making is amazing! This charming baby shower is overflowing with handmade love, designed by Bre Speck, a friend of the mom-to-be. Each piece was hand crafted and birdies abound everywhere in the decor! I love the cupcake favors, each adorned with a little nest and blue candy egg on top. Using natural textures, like burlap, make the whole scene seem perfectly comfortable for these sweet birds. Bre though about every detail, from the warm welcome at her front door to the photo booth with fun props. The lovely photos were captured by Jeff Marsh Studios.

This week we’re featuring a darling party from Paper & Pigtails {a division of Kori Clark Designs}. Kori’s theme for this fun play date is, “Under the Sea”.
We love the bright clean look. Check out how she incorporates fresh fruit into her design to add color.
How perfect….salt water taffy for favors!
She carried her theme all the way through to the water bottle wrappers. Who could resist a party as cute as this!!

Like we said, this is a teeny, tiny, peek of the hundreds of amazing new creations you will be seeing on our site. Please hang in there with us as we continue to work hard to get everything loaded onto our website. We know you will not be disappointed!
I’m always amazed at the creations that come about by using paper. Most of us think of paper as something to read and write on. But as you can see it can be so much more.
Next time you think about throwing out random sheets of paper….STOP….and create something!
How easy it is to not recognize our surroundings when sitting inside a studio creating. Sometimes it seems so difficult to come up with fun color combinations when all I need to do is open up the front door and take a look outside. Or open my sewing kit and check out all the spools of thread, pull out my overstuffed wrapping paper drawer, line up my colored pencils. Inspiration is EVERYWHERE. All you need to do is take a look around!

Now it’s your turn. Line up your nail polish, take a walk through your flower garden, play in your jewelry box…you are sure to stimulate your mind to creative levels of inspiration!
It’s back to school time. Are you feeling a little excited or maybe, a little teary cause summer is coming to an end. Your kids may be feeling the same way. Ease the transition to a new school year and create family memories with a special way to mark this important time. Why not do a little back to school home decor.
Kids always love a party. Why not throw a back to school party for some of their friends and neighbors.
Send your back to school message to your visitors by hanging a cute school wreath on your front door.
Wishing all of you a super school year!

2. An event or circumstance that causes one to have such a feeling.
This is where I’m at today. Waiting is not one of my best qualities, especially when I’ve had to wait way too long. I’m talking about my new website. There are so many wonderful items just waiting for you to gobble up. I can hardly stand that I’m having to make you wait and wait and wait!
Seriously, I am doing everything possible to hurry this along. Please don’t give up on me. I promise you won’t be sorry for waiting.
I’m chomping at the bit…….hang in there with me……..surely it won’t be much longer!
This morning I was browsing through Etsy and came upon these darling fabric circle garlands. They are so bright and cheerful, who wouldn’t want some hanging around their studio.
……..or wrapped around a little tree!
How about a window decoration?
And then there is always Halloween. The truth is the possibilities are endless!
Choosing creative gift wrap is not only thrifty but makes for a great look. Now that our kids are heading back to school it seems like the party invitations come flooding in.
In the past, it was considered in bad taste to reuse gift wrapping but now that our environmental awareness has changed, reusing gift-wrap and other recycled materials for wrapping gifts has become the stylish thing to do.
Although some of these wrapping paper alternatives may still require paper products, they may be used multiple times and some of them for years to come.
Here are some ideas that can be created by reusing newspaper, brown paper bags, paper dollies, yarn and other miscellaneous supplies.
Next time you get ready to throw out an empty paper bag or the old newspaper….STOP! Fold them up and stick them in the drawer with your other wrapping paper supplies. Just think of the money you’ll be saving!! (Not to mention how creative you can be).

Last night I stumbled upon this great blog post by Denise in Bloom. She is sharing several different ideas for dressing up your pumpkins. Here’s her post:
What a great time of year to celebrate the pumpkin. It’s always amazing to see the new things that are being done to pumpkins for fall without any carving involved. I have gathered some pumpkin decorating ideas to inspire us to embellish our pumpkins in new ways, making them last through the season.

What’s Halloween without a jack-o-lantern? These days the unordinary is what it’s all about when it comes to decorating. I stopped by Martha Stewart’s spooky headquarters and picked up these photos of some fun creations to get you in the spirit.
This witch decided to “hang around” for all the fun!
This little lion found his treat in the pumpkin patch.
I dare you to nibble off the goodies on this ghoulish table.
Mice never looked so sweet!
This costume will keep you from having to wait in line for the metro.
No trick or treat bag will go empty if you are lucky enough to stop by a candy table like this one.
As you venture out to join in the fun this Halloween night, beware of all the ghost, ghouls and monsters……you never know what might be lurking behind the next door!!!!!
With Thanksgiving being less then a month away, many of us are planning our delicious dinners, family get togethers and shopping for Christmas deals. Often times the meaning of this special holiday seems to get lost in the excitement of Santa’s December arrival. When I came across Emily’s post on her Jones Design Company blog it warmed my heart. Here’s what she had to say:
“This season leading up to Thanksgiving is one of my favorites. If there is anything I’d like to be, it is thankful, and so I love the idea of expressing our gratitude both in spoken and written word.
I have created a set of cards to help encourage this attitude of thankfulness.
You could put one at each place setting at the the Thanksgiving table, have your family and friends fill them out and share with each other. My sister does this each night leading up to Thanksgiving with her family and then saves the cards to read the following year.
Another great way to use the cards is to turn them into tags
and hang them on a thankful tree.
The boys and I tromped out into the woods, cut down a few branches, put them into a heavy urn and filled the bottom with stones to hold the branches in place.
Every day, we each write one thing we are thankful for. And the rule is that nothing can be duplicated. This is our first year doing a thankful tree and I’m looking forward to seeing what the boy’s come up with. I hope it is a great way to instill in them the importance of having a thankful heart. I know it will be good practice for me and Ryan, too.
{at least we’ve instilled some self-esteem in this silly child}.”
What a wonderful tradition to start with your loved ones. We live in such a busy world we sometimes forget to slow down and appreciate all that we have. Maybe this will be something you will want to do with your family too!
What girl doesn’t love a pom-pom? They just make you smile. Today I’m featuring this cute post from two shades of pink blogspot. She took simple supplies and made these adorable pom-pom gift tags. Here’s what she had to say:
“So my preoccupation with all things yarn continues. And as most of you probably already know…making a pom pom can be rather addicting. They are so fun, so colorful, and I thought to myself…something this fun should be on a stick. Seriously, aren’t things cuter on a stick?
I used washi tape and double sided tape to secure the pockets.
This one I just folded over and taped the edges but left a little space by the fold for the stick to slide into.
But of course my favorite is with a little bit of simplicity.
OK, let’s be honest, a turkey is not the most beautiful bird out there. That wrinkly waddle is not something you long to look at. But through creative eyes and hands, many have been able to come up with much more fun and yummy ways to see beauty in these guys. So in honor of “Mr. Tom Turkey” here’s some last minute, eye-pleasing, ideas for your Thanksgiving celebration via Pinterest.

You could use these paper tail feathers for your guests to write what they are thankful for. A quick project for your kids… use a long piece of brown paper and cut fringe on the end for your table runner.
Now what child could resist not eating his dinner if it were presented like this! Especially if this cute little chocolate turkey cupcake were for dessert.
Don’t want the kids in the kitchen….set up a small craft table for the kids to create their own favor cup while you’re busy getting your turkey dinner ready.
Did you even know there were so many ways to create a yummy turkey?
We have so many things to be thankful for. As you gather with your family friends on Thursday to celebrate Thanksgiving, be sure to focus on the positive things that you have experienced this year.
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” –Melody Beattie
WISHING YOU A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVNG!
There’s something particularly charming about snowmen. I just love all their cute faces, how they sparkle and all the different ways one can be created. Take for example these darling hand carved, vintage inspired little guys by Trieste Prusso Design’s. Each piece is sculpted, carved, painted, antiqued and then glittered. Mounting them on vintage toy blocks is the perfect finishing touch.
Carynbay is the talented artist who created this set of three, adorable, tiny snowmen ornaments. They are made of knit fabric and tea dyed to give a vintage feel. On their heads are sugared acorn caps. At their neck is pretty silver tinsel. Their arms are made of twigs and they have a light dusting of mica snow. Are these just TOO cute!
Guaranteed to make you smile is Teresa Perleberg‘s unique solid wool snowman. He’s sporting a hand spun and hand knit woolen scarf. Teresa’s little man was made using the art of needle felting from the fleece of her Romney sheep. Perfect hostess gift or for a snowman collector.
Jenny of The Polka Dot Pixie does amazing paperclay creations. These darling snowmen are sure to make everyone smile. Jenny uses her sculpting talent to for these one-of-a-kind, whimsical men.
OK, this looks like a project I may be able to pull off. Better Homes and Garden came up with this great idea. Embellish your holiday displays with a tex¬tural snowman made from balls of twine or string. Stack three different-size balls of twine on top of each other and hot-glue together and embellish. Wouldn’t he look great perched on your desk this time of year. These are just a small example of some fun ways to create snowmen. Maybe you will be inspired to create you special one-of-a-kind little guy for Christmas!
We’re tooting our horns and waving our pom-poms! Our website is finally up and running just in time for the holidays. We are thrilled to be able to offer you our new lines of cards, address labels, gift enclosures, stationery, etc. It’s been months and months of a lot of hard work but we think you will agree that it was worth the wait.
Speaking of holidays, did you know the custom of sending Christmas cards started in the U.K. in 1843 by Sir Henry Cole. He was a Government worker who was very interested in the new ‘Public Post Office’ and wondered how it could be used more by ordinary people. So he and a friend created the first Christmas card and the rest is history.
This year why not send one of our modern, unique and colorful cards to your friends and family.
Modern Posh carries a variety of options for you to create your own individual card. Choose your font, colors, and photo.

Oh, and don’t forget your return address label. We offer several darling labels for you to choose from.

As you prepare for this holiday season be sure to put your Christmas cards at the top of your list. The Christmas season is about love, caring and sharing. It’s so nice to be remembered at this time of year and even nicer to receive something by mail.

What do cheese and snow have in common?
What do snow…..
…. and mozzarella cheese……
……have in common?
A snowman, of course!!! I know, I have had snowmen on the brain lately. It must be the weather and the holiday. But when I came across this darling idea from “ less than perfect life of bliss” blog post, I just had to share it with all of you. Not only is this easy, but it is sure to be the hit of the party!
Here’s how to make your own cheesy snowman:
Just mix together (2) 8-oz. packages of cream cheese, a clove of garlic (minced) & a 1/4 cup of finely shredded mozzarella. Form the mixture into 2 balls , one larger & one smaller, then roll the balls in more mozzarella. To assemble the snowman, stack the small ball on top of the larger (use toothpicks to stack if needed), then add peppercorns for the eyes & buttons & a shred of carrot for the nose. To make the hat, cut circles from a piece of toasted wheat bread, then place it on his head with a toothpick!
He is just so stink’n cute!! Something tells me that we are all grabbing our purses and car keys and heading to the grocery store. Oh wait, I don’t have a party to take him to……Hhhmmmmm…..that’s okay, he’ll be a welcomed guest right here in our breakroom!
Today I thought you might enjoy a stroll through vintage Christmas memory lane. Karen, of My Desert Cottage, home reflects the cottage style and gives off that warm, cozy, welcome feel as soon as you enter. But during the Christmas season she goes all out to transform her home into a beautiful vintage Christmas wonderland. A web designer by trade Karen’s free time is spent creating pretty vintage items. As you will see in this tour of her home, many of her Christmas decorations are hand crafted by her.
A collector of vintage goods, Karen incorporates these found gems into her home decor. Like the antique scale and bottle brush trees on her end table. She brings in some fresh greens for color.
Most of her tree decorations are her own handmade beauties!
I’m drooling over her amazing garland draped over her window curtains. It is a work of art in itself.
These snowflakes are the bomb! She made these too! Loading her mantle garland with glass ornaments, lights, crystals, berries and paper snowflakes make this a show-stopper for sure! Keeping with the theme Karen used vintage sheet music to create the snowflakes.
Adorning the dining room chandelier with greens, glass ornaments and antique tinsel adds more ambiance to the room. Hanging the glass balls and crystals is such a pretty touch to the already gorgeous chandelier decor.
I think you will agree that this home has total “wow” factor! It just makes you want to curl up on her comfy couch with a mug of hot chocolate, Christmas music playing and just take it all in.

Dessert for New Year’s Eve
Now that we are all done running around trying to cross-off everything on our to-do list for Christmas, it’s time to slow down, relax and enjoy some quiet home time. After seeing this unique dessert table over at Hostess (with the mostess), I thought this would be a great idea for hosting a small get-together for New Year’s Eve. Jessica of Pen and Paper Flowers, is the creative talent behind this beautiful party idea that reflects the warmth of the Holiday Season.
Using a soft, creamy color palette she incorporated tea-stained paper dollies, ivory yarn, lace doily ribbons and shredded vintage paper.
Jessica used the “key decor” as the element for “unlocking” the holiday warmth theme.
The shredded vintage paper is such a cute change from the usual flowers in a vase.
These doily handmade flowers would be darling displayed in a little jar anytime of year. The white hot chocolate in tall skinny shot glasses carries on the neutral color theme.
Who knew that wrapping boxes in brown paper, doilies and lace could look so sweet.
This color palette has such a calm soft feel to it and lends itself to be used in so many other settings — wedding showers, anniversary parties, baby showers, etc. If you’re thinking you might like to use this idea for your New Year’s Eve party, why not sprinkle a little opaque glitter around your table to jazz things up.
As 2011 comes to an end we at Modern Posh want to thank you for your patronage. We look forward to an exciting and creative 2012.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Happy New Year everyone! We at Modern Posh are busy creating new, fresh designs for 2012.
Now that the holiday is behind us, the new year brings an opportunity to regroup, declutter and take a breath. It’s also the time we sit down to write our thank you’s for all our wonderful gifts we received. We carry some fun, personalized cards just for that purpose.

These pretty cards will make a distinct impression with their unique designs and colorful patterns.
Put a face on it! You can customize our cards by adding a picture of someone special. We know these little touches matter when keeping your family and friends in the loop.
Remember, email can get boring and receiving a personal thank you note always makes a person feel good. And when the notecards are fun and fabulous…well….that only makes it better. We love what we do and we hope you do too!
Strolling through Pinterest the other day I came across this sweet picture of a baby shower for Jade over at Lovey Living. After looking at a few days of dark overcast skies this was just such a happy pick-me-up. I must admit that it does make me yearn for Spring and tulips. In celebration of her new bundle of joy Jade picked the ever favorite pink! Hey, what girl doesn’t like pink. From the tissue pom “clouds” hanging overhead to a charming dessert table, this party definitely feels like a sweet lullaby-come-true!
The table came from inspiration from sites such as Party Perfect and Hostess with the Mostess these blogs are amazing and some of the parties are simply to die for. They are both great sites for getting theme ideas.
Paying attention to all the details certainly makes this table look amazing. Tiny muffin flags, coordinating colored cupcake wrappers, straw embellishments and labeled jars of candy pull the whole look together.
I love how incredibly clean and pretty this celebration feels. Using all white plates and tablecloth makes all the goodies take center stage. A simple pink bird banner adds that little touch of whimsy. I’m sure this baby shower was a smashing success!
Ahh … Valentine’s Day is almost upon us, a day when lovers swoon, florists are running and everyone is looking for that perfect card. Despite all the history of the holiday, many of us simply know this as a gift-giving holiday. For years, the traditional gift to give your love was a simple handmade card. Even today, the oldest surviving greeting card on record is a Valentine’s Day card from the 1400s which is on display in a Britain Museum. We’ve taken the handmade card to the next level with our custom photo cards.
You can create these personalized Valentine’s Day cards with your favorite photo. Pick your picture, type style, font color and write your own sentiment. As an added bonus you can have your return address printed on the envelopes.
Nothing makes that special connection like a paper greeting card does. Give your Valentine a card as unique as they are.
So however you decide to spend this holiday, do it with someone you love.
But remember it’s not always about chocolate, flowers and gifts…….but the card too!

It’s all about the heart
I’m seeing hearts. Yep, lots of red, pink, big, little, polka-dot…you name it…..it’s all about the hearts! I especially love cute unique projects I can create on my own. When I ran across this darling little project for a Valentine I just had to share it with you. Just Lila is responsible for this sweet piece of art. You could put it in a window or add to a greeting card for a pretty gift. So easy and yet effective.
Here is what she used:
organdy square
burlap cut to heart
torn toile ribbon
small scrap of red ticking
scrap of torn scrim/cheesecloth
a word (she embroidered hers but you could stamp it or cut from an old card or something)
Dark color sewing thread
Layer and sew together to form an applique, tie a one loop bow with the toile and sew to the heart.
Using a sheer background shows off the heart nicely.
Burlap is definitely a hot decorating item right now. What better way to incorporate it into your Valentine’s Day decor then this. While you’re making one for yourself why not make a few more to surprise the ones you love with. Who wouldn’t adore receiving one of these little beauties. So go get your craft on!

Today I needed a little pick-me-up from the winter blues so I hopped over to Katie’s blog, Running on Happiness. She author’s a style blog where she documents her journey for self-definition. I fell in love with this bright combination she put together. Here’s what she had to say:
We don’t need to be supermodels to know that the world is our cat walk. And we don’t need super powers to be super women. Sure, your face may not be on the covers of magazines, and you may not have the ability to read people’s minds, but there is something inside each and every one of us that makes us truly beautiful and wonderful.
The beauty and powers we possess are much more honest and real than anything found in a glossy magazine or a story defined by supernatural heroism. Like the girl who battles society’s standards of beauty just to feel comfortable in her skin. Or the mother who is impervious to sleep because she works day and night unconditionally taking care of her baby’s every need.
So today, remember your powers. And gurrrrrl, don’t forget to strut your thang walking down that sidewalk as if you’ve got cameras flashing. Throw those shoulders back, keep your head high, and give that booty a little pop as you turn that corner. Because there is nothing more powerful than confidence. The the world is watching, and noticing, how super you are. Just don’t become too super that you refuse to get out of bed for anything less than $10,000 a day, or go all Darth Vader on us. Because that would so not be cool.
This time of year, I totally dream about outdoor spaces. To me, there’s nothing better than enjoying the outdoors, with a cold lemonade to sip and my favorite magazine to browse.
Lazy days spent on a porch are a summertime treat. Enclosing and decorating your porch can extend your time there as well as make for a more enjoyable experience. Now if money was no object one of these gorgeous porches would be my pick.
White and blue always present that crisp, clean feel. Add some white wicker furniture, a little yellow to warm the space up and some fresh flowers and who wouldn’t want to spend the whole day on this darling porch.
Who needs a living room if you have a porch this size. Coordinating fabric really pulls this look together.
I could spend a whole day drinking my lemonade and reading magazines on this cozy bright porch.
Oh my, a fireplace would be so cool! I would never want to come inside. I’m sure this more formal outdoor space comes with a higher price tag.
Happily there is hope for my budget. This goes to show you that small can be perfect. All you need is a sweet comfy chair, a basket of fresh flowers and a little table to hold your goodies. I’m thinkin’ my dream porch may come true!
Happy President’s Day!
Many of you are probably out enjoying this day with family and friends. I on the other hand am in the midst of doing some house cleaning and re-organizing. After wandering through some of my favorite blogs I came across this inspirational post from Amy of Home Happy Home and it prompted me to get off my bum and get to work. I love her idea and especially how thrifty it is. Check it out:
diy underbed storage
The first thing I did was cut the top flaps off of the boxes. I used some leftover paint to paint all sides of the boxes.
Now we have plenty of room for all the miscellaneous items my daughter has. She can easily pull them in and out to access her things. Not to mention how excited I get when I finish a free project!
OK ladies, time to round up some empty cardboard boxes and get to work!
With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner I am feeling the green influence. Did you know that green is considered the most restful color to the eye, and of all the colors, green is the one in which the human eye distinguishes the widest range of shades. It has a calming effect and balances the nervous system. Green color is soothing, relaxing mentally as well as physically. No wonder I am feeling the need for green!
The color’s infinite variations blend easily with every other hue.
You might fancy going for something with a fresh feel, to make you or your room feel bright, cheerful and spring-like. So if you are needing a green pick=me=up choose fresh tones, in pale to mid shades, to keep it bright and breezy. Or just hang out by the green apples in the grocery store, lay in your grass or eat some green jelly beans!

You may think I’m talking about spring weather…but I’m not! I don’t know about you, but it seems the world has gone BABY CRAZY! Lately, everywhere I turn I see a baby or a pregnant woman. But you know what – it warms my heart. The promise and excitement of new life is always something to celebrate. Something to cherish.
Now, we all know that baby showers are pretty standard fare when a woman is about to become a mommy. But have you heard of a baby sprinkle? A baby sprinkle is like a “step below” a baby shower. The mommy can gather with her absolute closest friends and family and celebrate the soon-to-be arrival of her newborn bundle of joy. Baby sprinkles are for women who are becoming a mom for the second (or third!) time around.
What makes a good baby sprinkle gift? The once-again mommy can always use items such as diapers, formula (if so chosen), baby food, and bath products. Another great idea would be a massage gift certificate, a day at the spa, a simple facial or manicure, or baby sitting “coupons.” Think simple date night away from hectic daily life. Being a mom is hard!
Since a baby sprinkle isn’t a full blown baby shower, some choose not to go all out when inviting guests, selecting decor, food, and entertainment. Some still play games and have super cute inexpensive baby sprinkle favors.
But if your mantra is “Go Big or Go Home”, by all means…GO FOR IT! Create fancy invitations (we know of a fabulous online store who can hook you up!), delish food, and great decor.
Happy Sprinkling!
I glanced at my calendar this morning and realized the first official day of spring is rapidly approaching. To some that may mean colorful flowers, warmer weather, or even the beginning of baseball season. But to others, “spring” conjures up images of dustpans, mops, and brooms…while we’re at it, throw in some closet organizers, playroom storage, and shoe racks. That’s right, my friends – spring cleaning is upon us.
Wikipedia defines spring cleaning as the practice of thoroughly cleaning a house in the springtime. The practice of spring cleaning is especially prevalent in climates with a cold winter. The most common usage of spring cleaning refers to the yearly act of cleaning a house from top to bottom which would take place in the first warm days of the year typically in spring, hence the name. However it has also come to be synonymous with any kind of heavy duty cleaning or organizing enterprise.
The mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming is pretty darn boring so let’s talk about the F-U-N stuff…genius organizing ideas. Like millions of others (you’re probably included) I’ve become Pinterest obsessed. Here are a few of my fave organizing tips and ideas that I have come across.

There ya have it ladies…I hope this inspired you to get organized!! Share with us some of your genius organizing ideas…we’d love to hear ‘em!
